MAMA bass unlocked

After fishing for 4 years, I finally hooked onto a nice mama cichla temensis which is also my current personal best record and just a tad shy of my "double-digit" target of this year.
The day started out badly with on-off rain, but my kaki and I still managed to get some small guys to make the day better. It was not until the final minutes of the trip when I instinctively chose to use the Rapala Skitter Pop that quickly rewarded me with an 8-lber. This beast completely wrecked the hooks and I gotta thank my kaki for landing it swiftly or it could have got away just by a simple head-shake. All in all...it was definitely a great day worth remembering.
To all the anglers hunting for the biggies out there..NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!~ Cos it's never gonna be easy.

Update on this week's catch

Some recent catches...the usual cichla temensis and butterfly peacock bass..

Set on the valleyhill Airspeed 67s

A bigger one on a new bait i got - DUO Realis Spinbait 60
An alternative choice when it's brother, the DUO Realis Spinbait 80 is not producing catches.

Aggressive small guy that tried to inhale the Rapala X-Rap 08

A bigger and stronger one set on the Rapala X-Rap 08 as well

Smallie on another new bait - Jackall Chubby Vibration 40, works like a charm when the water's murky and the sun is up.

Broke virginity of new finesse rod

It's been a month since I got my last fish ...so I finaly can afford some time to do some luring, and jumped on this chance to break virgin of my new finesse rod - Rapala Kevyt 3-8lb. Firstly, I gotta say it's an awesome rod available at a very competitive price. More importantly is it's comfortable on the hands, lightweight and despite being an UL rod, it still has a good backbone to help you pull fishes out from those snags.
On this trip, I managed to land 4 peacocks with the biggest at 1.5lb. What I can say is the rod has yet to be pushed to it's limit, but still provide great fun to catch those smallies.

A trip to be remembered forever

Finally broke my dry-spell of 3 trips by this awesome trip. I didnt have much hope of getting fishes in quality or quantity, however, it proved that it was one of my most satisfying trip because I finally had a sense of relief after getting a nice 2-lber on my trusty D-Lure Explorer. Soon after, everything went quiet till the last hour. Desperate not to let the firt fish be my last for the trip, I started throwing out all sorts of lures to tempt the fishes. Fortunately, I had a strong instinct that topwater is the way to go, so I clipped on a rapala skitter pop and started popping it with pauses in between. This retrieve proved futile and I changed to an aggressive popping to imitate a feeding frenzy. This time, my effort was rewarded with yet another 2-lber to strike from close range. However, it failed to connect and it was not till the dying minutes that a smaller specimen decided to have a go on my popper. Thus, my 1st topwater fish was caught, ending my trip on a high note.

First fish on topwater, set on rapala skitter pop. Difinitely unforgettable.
Yet another one that fell victim to my trusty D-Lure Explorer.

Awesome start to the new year!!!

Firstly, a very happy new year to everyone....
I, myself had enjoyed a great start to this year with 2 4-lber cichla temensis on my first luring trip of the year.
This trip had also changed my views on the new "spy-baiting" technique through landing both fish by this fishing technique.

My set-up :
Rapala Shadow 8-17lb
Abu Garcia REVO Premier (Gen. 3)
Powerpro 10lb
DUO Tetraworks Perakko

Felt great to achieve my 2013's target of landing a bass >50cm, despite being a few days late.
As for 2014's target, I would wanna challenge myself to land >10lb cichla temensis, >50cm butterfly peacock bass and >6lb giant snakehead. Hopefully I can achieve all this targets within 2014.
